Coastal nature reserves

Trönninge meadows is a popular destination for bird watchers. To help them, there is both a hide and an observation tower. The coast at Stensjöstrand and Steninge is made for lovely walks and exploration. There is a certain grandeur to the barren landscape here. Hagön nature reserve is dominated by open heath and wetlands. The long, sandy beach invites sunbathing.

Eketånga nature reserve is a coastal area of aeolian sand where mixed forests of pine and birch grow. There are several circular walking trails. With luck, you may glimpse an elk.

Dense forests

If you would like to experience a little of the grandeur of Sweden’s Norrland while still in Halmstad, you should got to Nissaström nature reserve. Here, the Nissan river meanders down a valley bordered by steep slopes, deciduous trees and craggy walls.

If you are looking for wild beech woods, we can recommend Spenshult nature reserve. This is a truly fantastic, undisturbed area. Just north of Oskarström, Hälleberget is another beautiful area of deciduous forest. It offers plenty of steep slopes for a good leg workout!

With breath-taking views

Virsehatt is a hill that rises dome-like above the Sennan valley. There are lovely trails and incredibly beautiful views here. Biskopstorp is a disabled-friendly nature reserve with a number of circular walking trails. The Färstampa circuit has a narrow road of roughly 250 metres up to a viewing point with far-reaching views towards Steninge and the sea.

Haverdal is one of Halland’s oldest nature reserves. Bathing, jogging, riding and mushrooming are all popular here. In the reserve, there is Lynga sand dune (also known as Stora Sandkullen – the “large sand hill”). Rising 36 meters above sea level, it is Scandinavia’s highest sand dune.
